Minimal music by John Adams
The Harmonium for choir and orchestra is the orchestral work with which Adams made his international breakthrough in 1981. This composition for mixed choir and large symphony orchestra is written in minimalist style and was commissioned by the San Francisco Symphony. The piece is dedicated to Edo de Waart, who conducted its world premiere. The Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra will perform Harmonium for the first time, accompanied by the Amsterdam Student Choir and the Amsterdam Toonkunst Choir.
This programme can be heard on 11 and 12 June in the Concertgebouw.
