Providing fully accessible audio and video content to students ensures that all learners have the best chance at success. You have students who need accessible content right now; they may not yet have a diagnosed disability or they may choose not to disclose it. Other students may experience temporary disabilities or access barriers, such as learning in a noisy environment, viewing videos in a quiet public space, or relying on mobile devices with limited audio. In this workshop, you will learn to create and remediate documents and images using the most commonly used tools on our campus and best practices. Workshop learning objectives:Explain why captions, transcripts, and audio accessibility are essential for all learners. Distinguish between captions, subtitles, and transcripts and identify when each should be used. Identify the characteristics of accessible video and audio content. Evaluate the accuracy and quality of automatically generated captions. Edit and improve captions for clarity, punctuation, speaker identification, and synchronization. Create or obtain transcripts for audio-only and video content. Apply accessibility best practices when creating instructional videos. Determine when existing multimedia should be remediated versus recreated for accessibility. Application of the knowledge gained in this workshop will help you ensure that your courses meet Standards 8 and 9 of the UA Little Rock Online Quality Assurance Standards (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1k8VtPYvMSnmjJMsqvaMpYWV6naPLXrAwgi_CSGkknmo/edit?usp=sharing). Attendees should bring at least one instructional video or audio file to remediate for accessibility during the session. Participants should also ensure they have access to the software used to create or the platform used to host their media. We will focus on the accessibility features in Blackboard and the multimedia tools most commonly utilized on our campus to create and deliver online course content. This workshop is the fifth of the five Quality Assurance workshops. These can be completed in any order, and those who complete the series will receive a certificate. Attendees to the live session who complete all activities will receive 10 ATLE points. Please note that this session requires at least three registered participants to proceed. If the minimum is not met, you will be notified the afternoon prior of the cancellation.
