Poster House will host a screening of Amélie (2001), Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s whimsical love letter to Paris, presented in honor of the new exhibition Cuteness, Conservatism, & Consumption: Lefor-Openo and Postwar France. Starring Audrey Tautou as a shy waitress who secretly orchestrates small acts of kindness for the people around her, the playful visual world of Amélie echoes the bright palettes, charming characters, and carefully packaged femininity that Lefor-Openo brought to French advertising in the aftermath of World War II. Together, the film and the exhibition invite audiences to consider how cuteness sells, comforts, and shapes France itself.

The film will be shown in French with English subtitles. Running time is 2 hours and 2 minutes. Seating is first come, first served.

This program is suitable for attendees aged 15 and up.

This program is presented by Poster House’s CMYK Council, the museum’s BIPOC advisory board that works to ensure the museum is accessible to communities of color.

Accessibility Note: Masks are available free of charge at the museum. Assistive listening devices and stools are available. ASL (American Sign Language) interpretation or a CART (Communication Access Realtime Translation) is also available upon request. Please contact access@posterhouse.org or (914) 295-2387 to request interpretation services and to address any other accessibility needs.
