Oya, a gifted young athlete, navigates family, love, and ambition in this coming-of-age story from Tarell Alvin McCraney.
Synopsis: Tarell Alvin McCraney once again creates a poetic coming-of-age story in his Brother/Sister play series. In the Red and Brown Water tells the story of Oya, a gifted young athlete living in Louisiana who is trying to find her place in the world while balancing her responsibilities, relationships, and personal desires. As Oya navigates adulthood, she faces difficult choices surrounding love, family, motherhood, and her dreams for the future, forcing her to confront both the expectations placed on her and the desires she keeps for herself. Inspired by Yoruba mythology, the play blends the realities of everyday life with elements of spirituality and folklore, creating a story that explores identity, womanhood, love, loss, and the search for purpose.
