Dir. Vincente Minnelli. 1953, 96 mins. U.S. 35mm. With Lucille Ball, Desi Arnaz, Marjorie Main, Keenan Wynn. Lucy and Desi and Minnelli? Talk about a dream team. In this hilarious mix of romantic comedy, slapstick, and suspense, Ball and Arnaz—at the time the two most popular performers in the nation—play Tacy and Nicky (of course), an engaged couple who purchase a trailer so they can journey the country and play at domesticity before tying the knot. Aside from getting to see America’s favorite redhead in Technicolor, The Long, Long Trailer, the only major big-screen outing for the TV icons, offers up the perfect premise for a 1950s comedy, commenting on the comforts of postwar material culture with escalating madcap brilliance.
Tickets: $17.50 / $12 senior and students / $10 youth / $7 MoMI members. There is a $1.50 transaction fee per ticket for all online purchases. The cost of admission may be applied toward a same-day purchase of a membership.
