The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art is one of the largest modern and contemporary art museums in the United States, anchoring the SoMa cultural district near Yerba Buena Gardens. Its seven floors of galleries cover painting, sculpture, photography, design, media art and architecture, from early modernism to new commissions. Free-to-see ground-floor spaces and Thursday late openings make it a regular stop for locals as well as visitors.
