Opened in 1989 in the woods of Hijiyama Park as Japan's first public museum devoted to contemporary art. Its Kisho Kurokawa building reopened in 2023 after renovation and runs special exhibitions, rotating collection shows, an open programme for emerging artists, talks and screenings.
