Teatro Costanzi, opened in 1880 near Via Nazionale, is the main house of the Rome Opera, with its horseshoe auditorium and tiers of boxes. The season alternates major operas, ballets by the house company and concerts by its orchestra and chorus; in summer the activity moves to the Baths of Caracalla.
