The city's history museum, built on the site of the third bailey of Sendai Castle. Its collection of some 100,000 items grew from gifts by the Date family and is known for the National Treasure documents of the Keicho embassy to Europe and objects tied to Date Masamune. Permanent galleries change with the seasons, alongside several special exhibitions a year.
