Bulgaria's oldest museum, set in the fifteenth-century Grand Mosque building opposite the Presidency. Its halls show archaeological finds from the Palaeolithic to the late Middle Ages, and its treasury holds Thracian gold. The museum belongs to the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.
