Malta's national theatre, a gilded baroque playhouse built in 1732 by Grand Master Manoel de Vilhena on Old Theatre Street in Valletta. Its oval auditorium of boxes hosts drama in English and Maltese, musicals, ballet and the Malta Philharmonic's Beethoven series, while the Studio Theatre runs the Toi Toi family programme, baby shows and stand-up nights.
